Your mission:

As an Engineering Manager at Sleep Cycle, you guide and empower engineers—driving hiring, career development, and team health within a collaborative, product-led environment.

Your key responsibilities:

• Lead and support our engineers through 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development.
• Create and maintain a strong engineering culture that values inclusion, team morale, and psychological safety.
• Ensure Tech Leads have the resources and support they need to lead effectively.
• Collaborate with other Engineering Managers and the CTO on cross-team initiatives.
• Manage team resourcing, workload balancing, and succession planning.
• Report team health and talent risks to the CTO, driving strategic alignment.
• Promote cross-team collaboration and knowledge sharing.
• Collaborate with HR on hiring processes and own hiring pipeline for engineers in their scope: sourcing, interviewing, closing.

What we are looking for:

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in an engineering leadership role (Tech Lead, Team Lead, or Engineering Manager).
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field—or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven experience coaching and managing engineers, driving career development and performance.
• Strong knowledge of modern software development practices, including mobile app, backend, and web development.
• Successful track record of hiring, onboarding, and retaining talent
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a focus on building trusted relationships across engineering, product, and management teams.
• Experience in product-led development environments, where engineers contribute to business outcomes.
• Proficient in agile and iterative methodologies, with the ability to adapt practices to team needs.
• Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.

Nice to have:

• Background in product companies or startups, with experience managing change, ambiguity, and rapid iteration cycles.

• Skilled in building and scaling engineering processes, rituals, and career ladders.

• Familiar with engineering tools and infrastructure in mobile-first companies (e.g., CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, release management).

• Demonstrated ability to influence engineering strategy, collaborating with senior technical and product leadership.

• Strong understanding of cross-functional dynamics, including planning alongside Product and Design teams.

• Experience with distributed systems, mobile platforms (iOS/Android), or data pipelines is a plus.
